2:00 PM
We chose a summer date when the Alps are at their most breathtaking — long golden days, wildflower meadows, and crystal-clear skies.
Schloss Oberhofen Castle Chapel
On the shores of Lake Thun — Interlaken, Switzerland
Our ceremony will take place inside one of the most enchanting settings in all of Switzerland — the medieval chapel at Schloss Oberhofen, a fairy-tale castle rising directly from the waters of Lake Thun. Dating back over 800 years, the castle and its grounds offer breathtaking views of the Bernese Alps, manicured gardens that sweep down to the lakeshore, and a sense of timeless romance you have to see to believe.
Schloss 4, 3653 Oberhofen am Thunersee, Switzerland
Please join us for our ceremony inside the 15th-century chapel, followed by drinks and aperitif in the castle gardens overlooking Lake Thun. From there, we’ll embark on a scenic boat tour along the lake before arriving at dinner (location TBD).
Transportation will be provided from the venue to our dinner location — just come ready to celebrate!
We invite you to dress in semi-formal / cocktail attire. To complement the golden-hour glow and lakeshore setting, our wedding palette draws from warm golds, soft sage greens, and buttery yellows — and we’d love for our guests to incorporate these tones into their outfits! It really will make the photos and the whole day feel even more special.
For the ladies: Dresses, jumpsuits, or separates in any of the palette colors below — solids, florals, or mixed tones all work beautifully.
For the guys: Black or charcoal gray suits are perfect. Complement your look with a tie, pocket square, or shirt in one of the palette colors to tie it all together.
The two main airports serving the Bernese Oberland are Zürich (ZRH) and Geneva (GVA). Both have excellent train connections to Interlaken.
Switzerland’s public transit system is world-class. Trains, buses, boats, and cable cars run like clockwork, and these passes can save you a lot of money:
It’s as simple as downloading the app. SBB Mobile is extremely easy to use — search any route, see real-time departures, and buy tickets for any and all public transit in the region right from your phone. You can also add your Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card to the app once you have one, so everything lives in a single place.
You won’t need a car! The Bernese Oberland has an incredible network of trains, funiculars, cable cars, gondolas, and PostBuses connecting every village and mountain peak. We found public transit to be the easiest way to explore Interlaken and the surrounding Bernese Oberland — everything runs on time, connections are seamless, and you get to relax and take in the scenery instead of worrying about driving mountain roads.
We’ll be staying in Interlaken and we’d recommend you do too! It’s the most central base in the Bernese Oberland — sitting right between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz with train connections to every village, peak, and adventure in the region. Three train stations sit just minutes away — Interlaken Ost, Interlaken West, and Wilderswil station — and from any of them you can hop anywhere in the region with ease. Speaking of which, Wilderswil is a smaller, quieter town just down the road from Interlaken with charming places to stay as well, if you’d prefer a more tucked-away feel. Interlaken itself has the widest range of accommodation, from grand 5-star hotels to cozy boutique stays to vacation rentals. Here are some of our top picks at every price point.
Interlaken has a great hostel scene for budget travelers. Backpackers Villa Sonnenhof and Balmers Hostel are local favorites with social vibes, clean rooms, and unbeatable prices.
View Hostels HerePerfect for families, groups, or anyone who wants a kitchen and extra space. Search the Airbnb or Vrbo apps for Swiss apartments and chalets in the Interlaken area — many have balconies with stunning Alpine views.
The neighboring village of Matten sits right on Interlaken’s doorstep — quieter and more affordable than the center, with stays a 15–20 minute walk or quick 5–10 minute bus ride to train stations that’ll take you anywhere in the region. We stayed at the Mattenhof Resort last time and loved it, so we’ll try to stay there again (though it may be under construction and unable to be booked around our dates). Other great choices include Waldhotel Unspunnen, Alpina Hotel, Hotel Sonne, and Hotel Tell (with a fun Irish pub downstairs).
View Hotels in MattenInterlaken offers a wide range of hotels at every price point — from cozy 3-stars and boutique stays to grand 5-star landmarks — all within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the train stations.
View Hotels in InterlakenA smaller, tucked-away town just next to Matten bei Interlaken — quieter and more relaxed, with its own train station connecting you to the rest of the region in minutes.
View Hotels in WilderswilThese storybook alpine villages will certainly be part of your trip — each a quick train and/or cable car ride from Interlaken. If you’d rather base yourself up in the mountains than down in the valley, you’ll find plenty of charming hotels and Airbnbs nestled in these towns too.
See Hotels in LauterbrunnenYou’ve traveled to one of the most spectacular places on Earth — make the most of it! Each of these towns and peaks is easily reachable from Interlaken by train, bus, or cable car. Click the links to see more photos and plan your visit.
The valley of 72 waterfalls — one of Switzerland’s most picturesque scenes, with sheer cliffs framing a storybook village and cascades pouring from every side.
A car-free village perched on a cliff 1,600m above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Charming wooden chalets, cozy restaurants, and jaw-dropping views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. We hope you’ll join us for the easy — and most scenic — hike from Mürren to Gimmelwald!
A tiny, impossibly charming farming village perched on a cliff below Mürren — no cars, no crowds, just cowbells and staggering views. Rick Steves called it his favorite spot in the Swiss Alps.
The last village at the end of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, surrounded by towering waterfalls and sheer cliffs. The cable car to Gimmelwald, Mürren, and the Schilthorn departs from here — and this is also where you’ll find the epic and mighty Trümmelbach Falls, a must-see.
The “Glacier Village” nestled beneath the Eiger’s legendary north face. Hop on the Eiger Express — a tricable gondola from Grindelwald Terminal — for an absolutely epic ride up to Eigergletscher, then take the short, scenic walk down to Kleine Scheidegg, one of the most jaw-dropping panoramas in the Alps.
This is where Joey asked Cadee to marry him! A must if you want to stand on top of the very Alps you’ll be staring up at from the ground in Interlaken. Europe’s highest train station at 3,454m — ride the legendary cogwheel railway through a tunnel inside the Eiger to a world of eternal snow and ice, with views over the UNESCO World Heritage Aletsch Glacier.
Interlaken’s “home mountain” — a 10-minute funicular ride to a dramatic viewing platform suspended between two lakes. Panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Perfect at sunset.
Switzerland is dotted with otherworldly glacial lakes, but none quite like Oeschinensee — a turquoise jewel cradled by sheer cliffs and snow-capped peaks just south of Interlaken. A short gondola and easy hike from Kandersteg gets you there, and you’ll wonder if the water has been Photoshopped. Rowboats, lakeside trails, and a summer toboggan run round out one of the most unforgettable day trips in the Alps.
These are some of our suggested activities if you want to fully immerse yourself in the great outdoors of Switzerland. Interlaken is widely known as the adventure sport capital of Europe — from sky to summit to gorge, there’s something here for every level of thrill-seeker (and every level of chill-seeker, too).
Soar tandem over the lakes and valleys with the Jungfrau massif as your backdrop. No experience needed — just an appetite for awe. Approximately CHF 200 for a tandem flight.
Find tandem flightsWorld-class trails for every level. Try Männlichen → Kleine Scheidegg (easy, epic Eiger views), the Schynige Platte ridge walk, or the Lauterbrunnen–Mürren panoramic path. There are honestly a ton of hikes here, and none of them will leave you without a spectacular view.
See a handful of favoritesGuided climbing along secured mountain routes, or canyoning through Alpine gorges and waterfalls. The legendary Via Ferrata Mürren-Gimmelwald is one of the most scenic in the Alps — a 2.2km cliffside route with suspension bridges and a Nepalese-style sky walk, hung directly above the Lauterbrunnen valley with the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau in full view. Several outfitters in Interlaken also offer half-day canyoning trips.
Via Ferrata MürrenThe GoldenPass Express (Interlaken → Montreux), the Brienzer Rothorn steam railway, and the Luzern–Interlaken Express along the lakeshores. Don’t miss the cogwheel train from Kleine Scheidegg down to Mürren or Grindelwald — absolutely stunning, with the Eiger looming the whole way.
Wengernalpbahn detailsDon’t miss fondue, raclette, rösti, and Älplermagronen (Alpine mac & cheese). Many mountain restaurants have outdoor terraces with views you won’t believe.
July is perfect for swimming in the crystal-clear Alpine lakes. Lake Brienz and Lake Thun have beautiful public swimming spots. Cool and refreshing!
For the truly bold — tandem skydiving from a helicopter over the Alps, bungee jumping in the Grindelwald gorge, or the legendary Canyon Swing where you free-fall 90 meters before swinging out over the Sax River gorge. This is the adventure capital of Europe.
Canyon Swing infoSwitzerland uses the Swiss Franc (CHF). Credit cards, Apple Pay, and tap-to-pay are accepted almost everywhere — honestly, we never needed to pull out cash a single time on our trip. ATMs are easy to find if you do want some.
The Bernese Oberland is German-speaking (Swiss German). Don’t worry — English is widely spoken in tourist areas. A friendly “Grüezi” (hello) always gets a smile!
Expect highs in the upper 70s°F during the day in the valleys, dropping to the low 50s°F at night. Alps weather can shift dramatically and afternoon storms are possible — bring layers and a light rain jacket — but late July is mostly a beautiful, sunny stretch.
Comfortable walking shoes (or hiking boots), layers for the mountains, sunscreen, sunglasses, a refillable water bottle, and a rain layer. Dress is generally casual.
Service is included in Swiss prices by law, so tipping is not expected. Rounding up or leaving 5–10% for excellent service is appreciated but entirely optional.
Public transit in the Interlaken region is genuinely top-tier — trains, gondolas, funiculars, and boats all run on time and connect seamlessly. You won’t need (or want) a car. Grab a Swiss Travel Pass for unlimited rides, or a Swiss Half Fare Card to get 50% off everything — either pays for itself fast.
We’ll be planning some group activities and adventures throughout the week for anyone who wants to join. These are completely optional — you’re on vacation! Feel free to join as many or as few as you’d like, or go off and explore on your own. We just want everyone to have the trip of a lifetime.
Activities will be added here as we finalize plans — check back for updates!
All group activities are optional. Your only “assignment” is to show up on July 27th. ♡
We can’t wait to celebrate with you in Switzerland! Please let us know whether you’ll be joining us by March 1, 2027 — this gives us time to finalize the guest count with our venue and Swiss vendors.
Having you travel all the way to Switzerland to celebrate with us is the greatest gift we could ever ask for. We truly mean that — your presence is more than enough.
That said, for those who have asked, a contribution to our honeymoon fund would mean the world to us. We’re dreaming of extending our time in Europe after the wedding, and any contribution will go directly toward making those memories together.
